MBA - I feel old!

So...I've decided to go back to school and get my MBA. My original reason to do this was to go into management. However, last week, after enrolling and paying for my classes, I was promoted to manager. So, now my new motivation for this degree is just to improve my resume and for promotional purposes in the future. Anywho....I can tell it has been a while since I have been in school. I go bee-bopping into class tonight with a blank spiral notebook and ball point pen and that is it. I start noticing that almost all of the other classmates walk in with the notes already printed, textbooks, syllabus, etc. Apparently in the eight years since I have been out of school something came out called Web CT where all assignments and other relevant course information is posted and so you are already supposed to be in the "know". When I asked the professor what Web CT was everyone got a good laugh and asked when the last time I was enrolled in a class was and told me to see him after class to explain! Yeah...I was feeling a little dated. I'd like to say that I am now in the "know" and am ready to conquer the next two years (we will see if I'm still this confident after the first few assignments are due). It should be an adventure and hopefully a nice adult outlet (and break from Dora and Scooby Doo!)

Melting Pot Mania

So..last Thursday some friends and I had a girls' night out at the Melting Pot in Kennesaw which continued on to the Back Porch Grill in Marietta. I'm not sure how old I thought I was but I'm definitely not winning any mother-of-the year awards for that night. No seriously....I hired a great babysitter named Holly for the first time who the kids absolutely loved. I think I got too busy talking / laughing during dinner that I forgot to eat enough...all the while I kept sipping on the wine. Basically I was so drunk that I was barely able to relieve the sitter, threw up all night long, and continued barfing until around 1 or 2 the next day (hence missing a very important day at work). It makes me feel better to tell myself it was probably more some undercooked meat from the fondue than the fact that I can no longer handle alcohol but who knows...I just know I won't be going to the Melting Pot for a LONG time and will probably take a nice break from alcohol as well. At least while at dinner I got the low-down on Becky's low carb regimen her trainer put her on and I've been trying it since Saturday (thought it would be a good time to start on a TOTALLY empty stomach after puking all day).

Marlow's Tavern
Last night I reconnected with some old friends from high school and had the best time. Ten of us met at Marlow’s Tavern. At first it was the polite, “hey, how have you been” conversation which over the course of the night and after a few round of drinks turned into old times like 14 years has not even passed. We picked right back up and acted as immature as ever and had a fabulous time! We will definitely have to do it again soon and take pictures next time. Good friends like that are hard to come by and I feel lucky to have them. : )
Ashlyn will turn 6 on Sunday and we are having her a spend the night birthday party Friday night. Her friends Zoe and Rae are coming to spend the night and some other friends are meeting us either at the skating rink or the bowling alley (she hasn’t decided). She wants a Hannah Montana cake and I’m getting her a Disney ipod for her birthday. The kiddos are going to Americus next week and I’m trying to strategically plan what to get done while they are gone. I’m thinking of painting the bathroom a Light Pistachio color and Frank’s room khaki. If I really get into it I may do my room as well. In addition, I plan to go walking at night, go to dinner with friends, and take long naps on the weekend! I'm ready for this break!

Learning to Blog
So...I've been hearing a lot about blogging and I figure it is time I try it. It seems to be a great way to keep up with friends since we all stay so busy. I recently moved to a new house which is the first house (versus apartment) since my divorce in 2006. As the name of my blog suggests, it is on Hope Street which seems to fit. I "hope" to settle into a community here and put some roots down to start a new life. I'm also going to use this as a tool to reflect on our busy lives and track progress toward my goals. I'll list them below so I have no excuses : )
Long term goals: Healthy and emotionally sound children who respect others and thrive, financial security, and true love and acceptance
Short term goals: Obtaining my MBA, going on a cruise, improving and maintaining my fitness level, starting a scrapbooking and or supper club, and taking some spur of the moment road trips!!! : )
